INSTRUCTION

Simple Story Synopsis

Amidst changes in the Earth's environment, the practice of harvesting marine organisms emerges. All animals, in order to survive, must unite and rescue each other, ensuring their continued existence — this is the chain of life.

Storyboard (sketches/digital)

Figure 1.1 Storyboard Image 1 (Sketch)

Under the sea, two crabs are good friends, chatting as usual. A small white fish swims towards them, becoming their new friend and sharing its latest news.

Soon after, a blue baby whale approaches, eager to befriend them and engage in joyful conversation.

However, after their friendly interaction, the baby whale gets unexpectedly caught in a fishing net. The little fish notices the situation and seeks help from the two crabs.

Using their claws, the crabs skillfully cut through the net, rescuing the baby whale.

In the end, everyone discusses the incident and becomes great friends.

Production process

In this task, we need two people to collaborate. In the assigned groups, I am required to work in coordination with my partner to create a stop-motion animation. We will be working at the filming location designated by Mr. Martin and utilizing the specified tools to accomplish the task.

Firstly, we need to familiarize ourselves with the tools and set up the scene. It is crucial to pay attention to lighting, positioning, and shooting angles, as these factors will impact the visual outcome of the final piece.

Digitalization

In this task, I shot the scenes and retained approximately 350 photos. I utilized Premiere Pro, which we have used before, for the subsequent steps. After sorting through all the photos, I arranged them neatly and adjusted the frame rate and animation layout in the software.

When encountering any lagging areas, it was necessary to adjust the appropriate seconds to ensure the final product is crafted into a very smooth form, enhancing the overall visual effect.

In the final processing stage, I employed the color adjustment techniques introduced by my mentor to harmonize the overall visuals.

I also added underwater and rope-cutting sounds, as demonstrated by the mentor. This not only enhances the auditory experience but also contributes to the visual aesthetics, providing a more immersive and appealing presentation.

Reflection

Task Three is also the final project of this semester for the course. I chose a theme related to underwater animals, which is a relatively simple story. However, the key focus is on applying the operational steps and new knowledge points introduced by the mentor.

Initially, I didn't have much understanding of the shooting process. In this task, we not only applied photography knowledge but also had to create the required scenes ourselves. This posed a challenge, but it did not overwhelm me. I utilized various tools, such as colored clay, transparent fishing lines for underwater effects, and brown ropes. These are some of the most basic materials, and I shaped them to achieve the desired forms. The final visual outcome met my expectations.

I have learned a lot in this course, not just about stop-motion animation but also about creating scenes and utilizing various tools. I will cherish all the knowledge gained and apply it in future courses.
