      Digital Photography and Imaging

_ project 1_

WEEK1

In the first week, the lecturer explained to us in class what the module
consisted of and what we would learn in the future. the instructor taught
us to use the website "the Bezier" to practice how to use the pen tool in
Photoshop. It is all about the basic exercises, only know how to use the
pen tool, can challenge the more difficult technical lessons. We need to
publish the results in the docx created by Mr. Martin. In docx, we need to
find our 3 favorite Photoshop graphic design works on website and display
them, explaining why we chose this design image.

Description

From the perspective of the overall visual sense, the overall color is
relatively natural and simple, which can make the color clean. In terms
of divisions, a woman's head picture is divided into five parts, and they
are not separated but connected by flowers and lines, with reasonable
color matching, clear expression effect and clear purpose.

Description:

This illustration is the design of a half-body woman, with collage
elements, reasonable color matching, and a sense of design from
different styles. Multiple design elements of different styles are matched
 together, which is very unique.

Figure 1.3 https://pin.it/2WZgmJF

Description:
In this illustration, you can see the image of a man's upper body. In the
way of collage, multiple elements have bright colors, which can foil the
monotonous image, and the overall picture sense is arranged and
distributed neatly.

WEEK 2

In the second week of the course, we will take the next step and learn
more about how to use Photoshop. Use some tools on the page, add
layer masks to delete the background, more ways to express the effect
you want to present, in the toolbar, we know a lot of tools such as magnetic
lasso tool and quick selection tool. We will use the knowledge learned to
create a collage design work, adding pictures and materials depends on
 personal ideas.

WEEK 3

In the third week, we learned how to add or change colors to images,
and in the process of practicing, we used the knowledge learned in the
last lesson. Select the areas that need to be colored or changed, and
mask them, each layer should be assigned, because once added to the
wrong layer this will be the step for us to redo this. After adding color,
adjust the edges around the detailed areas, and adjust the layer style
in the blend option of the corresponding layer to soft.

Final Outcome

I believe that the first design in the three artworks is more creative. It appears to have a variety of different elements, so I have chosen the first design as my final piece for this assignment.

Digital Collage

During the second week's assignment, we were tasked with creating a digital collage using Adobe Photoshop, utilizing different types of resources and various images. This assignment allowed us to unleash our creativity and explore the diverse functions of Photoshop. It challenged our design ideas and required us to demonstrate proficiency in operating the software.

selected an appropriate size for the images and removed unnecessary edges from each element before collaging them together. I expressed my ideas through this approach. I acknowledge that this artwork is not entirely satisfying as it may lack finer details. I will take note of this issue for future tasks.

Digital Imaging

Exercise 1: HEARST MANSION

In Project 1, Exercise 1 of Digital Photography and Imaging, we are required to use Photoshop to merge a full-body image of ourselves with the provided background of the Hearst Mansion. I opted for a candid side-profile full-body photo of myself, as I'm a bit shy, and employed masking techniques to remove the background.

After removing the background, I placed myself in the Hearst Mansion. Mr. Martin guided us on how to utilize various functions of Photoshop to seamlessly blend ourselves into the background.

During the design process, I uploaded the photo of myself after masking the surroundings. In the overall composition, I wanted to portray myself as a tourist or visitor. I made adjustments to the brightness and contrast of my photo to make it stand out. I seamlessly integrated my photo with the entire background, and also softened the edges of the subject.

On the mirror-like floor of the Hearst Mansion, I added my own reflection. I integrated my reflection with the mirrored surface of the floor. I made color adjustments, such as saturation or hue, to match the floor. Finally, I flipped my shadow, adjusted its opacity and angle to make it appear like a genuine reflection.

FINAL OUTCOME

Recoloring

In Project 1, Exercise 2 of Digital Photography and Imaging, we are required to select a grayscale photograph from the provided collection by Mr. Martin. Our task is to adjust the colors and recolor the chosen grayscale photograph.

Figure 7.1 the picture of black pink-Lisa

To add color to specific areas, such as the skin, I used the Quick Selection Tool to make initial selections. Then, I refined these selections using the Refine Edge Brush Tool in the Select and Mask option.

After fine-tuning the selections, I created layer masks from them. Using an overlay layer, I applied skin tones to the selected areas. To ensure natural-looking colors, I sampled colors from online reference images using the Eyedropper Tool.

This process was repeated for other parts of the photograph, including hair, clothes, and accessories. By meticulously applying colors to each element, I transformed the grayscale image into a vibrant, fully colored composition.

Reflection

The module on Digital Photography and Imaging began in Week 1 and lasted until Week 4, during which we were required to complete three assignments, including a physical collage and two digital imaging exercises. While I was not entirely unfamiliar with Adobe Photoshop, my experience with the software was limited, so I eagerly looked forward to expanding my knowledge and skills in using this application.
In the initial three weeks, the lecturer focused on introducing the fundamentals of Photoshop. Among the various tools available, the selection and mask tool stood out as the most crucial tool in virtually all photoshopping work. However, we were provided with numerous exercises throughout the four-week period to practice using the selection and mask tool. As a result, I gradually became more comfortable with the tools and even customized my workspace to align with my preferred work style. This allowed me to work efficiently and meet the assignment deadlines.
These first few weeks of the semester have been incredibly enriching, providing me with a wealth of knowledge and fresh insights into the realm of design. As a result, I am eagerly looking forward to further expanding my understanding and sk
